Kiruna 2003

A number of JPL scientists and engineers are in Kiruna, Sweden during the winter of 2002/2003 to study the Arctic ozone layer. Their activities are part of campaigns sponsored by NASA and the European Union. The ozone layer is being observed by JPL instruments on the ground as well as by instruments aboard:

Kiruna is fascinating mining town located just above the Arctic circle. The scientific activities are based in a state-of-art airport hangar/research facility called the Arena Arctica and the equally state-of-art Esrange Balloon Launch Facility.
