ATMOS ATLAS 1 POCC Images

Payload Operations Control Center (POCC)

Commanding, health monitoring, and capture of the data of the ATMOS instrument during the ATLAS 1 mission was done at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Payload Operations Control Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Commanding the Instrument

ATMOS took measurements of the atmosphere around the clock, so a POCC team was on duty 24 hours a day during the mission. Commands were modified by the team, normally to point the ATMOS suntracker at the sun, and sent up by the MSFC personnel to the payload experiment computer on board the shuttle.

Capturing Data

ATMOS JPL POCC Team members here prepare to capture incoming data from the ATMOS instrument. The data will be recorded on the ground support equipment, seen here behind the team members, while they also monitor the health and status of the instrument on computer screens.

POCC View

ATMOS was one of 13 instruments in the ATLAS payload in the bay of Atlantis, all commanded from the POCC at MSFC. This view shows the POCC centers for ATMOS and several other instruments.
